Literacy – Level 1 (Pre-G.C.S.E English)

If you haven’t got the qualifications to start a job, or want to improve your English, then Literacy Level 1 is the course to start with.

The course helps you to develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The course involves reading, understanding and obtaining information from a variety of texts.

It will also help you to write using different types of styles and formats, including letters, essays and newspaper articles.

Course duration :

1 year

Attendance:

3 - 15 hours per week (weekend classes available)

Entry requirements : 

No formal entry requirements. You will however need to take a short assessment to determine your level of English

Progression :

After the course you can move to a G.C.S.E English course or to Literacy Level 2.

Literacy – Level 2

This course enables you to achieve the reading and writing skills which are based on the national standards for adult literacy. It helps you achieve the skills and knowledge of reading and writing texts, and give you confidence in spelling, grammar and comprehension.

You will also have the opportunity to engage in discussions and improve your speaking and listening skills to communicate more effectively.

Course duration: 

1 year

Attendance:

3 - 15 hours per week (weekend classes available)

Entry requirements:    

Literacy and Numeracy Level 1.

Progression:

After completing this course you can move onto a Level 3 course as this gives you the basic skills qualification to move into further/ higher education or employment.
